Trust & Safety

Buy and sell — protected.

Bid Bahamas is built on a simple promise: your payment is held in escrow until the item is in your hands. Here is how that works, and how to spot the few scams that try to slip past it.

Safe payments — every order, every time

All marketplace orders go through Bid Bahamas escrow. Your money is held by us until you confirm the item arrived (or you picked it up). No confirmation in 3 days? Funds auto-release to the seller. If something is wrong, open a dispute and the funds stay frozen until we resolve it.

  • Card (Stripe) and PayPal payments are AUTHORIZED — not captured — at checkout.
  • SunCash payments are confirmed by Bid Bahamas before they unlock the escrow clock.
  • Sellers never see your card details — only Stripe and PayPal do.

How to spot a scam before it costs you

Most scam attempts have the same fingerprints. Watch for these red flags before you ever send money:

  • A seller asks you to pay outside Bid Bahamas (CashApp / Western Union / "wire transfer to a friend").
  • A 'too good to be true' price on a brand new iPhone, MacBook, generator, or vehicle.
  • Pressure to "decide right now" or "pay before someone else gets it".
  • A buyer asks to overpay and have you refund the difference.
  • Stock photos with no real local context (no Bahamian background, no license plate, no real shipping option).

Meet in safe locations

For local pickups, especially high-value items, follow these basics:

  • Meet at a public, well-lit place — gas stations, supermarkets, police-station parking lots.
  • Bring a friend, especially after dark.
  • Tell someone where you are going and share the listing link.
  • For vehicles, meet during the day and bring a mechanic if you can.
  • Use the in-app Bid Bahamas messages — never give out your home address.

What Bid Bahamas does for you

You are not on your own:

  • Identity verification (Stripe Identity) for vehicle sellers and high-value listings.
  • Verified business badges for pros and shops with documents on file.
  • Open a dispute on any escrow order — funds freeze until reviewed.
  • Notifications when listings change, orders ship, and funds release.
  • Direct support from Nassau — call or email a real person, not a chatbot.
